Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) has dramatically improved the economic environment in Central Dallas since the debut of its light rail line in 1996. DART's initial development included 20 miles of light rail and 20 transit stations. DeShazo, Tang & Associates had the opportunity to be involved as the traffic engineering consultant for the Starter Line, and was responsible for the following.:

  • Traffic impact studies for rail stations, park-and-ride lots and bus timed transfer stations
  • Corridor studies for median running trains
  • Signal timing optimization for roadways adjacent to the rail line
  • Grade separation evaluations
  • Street closures
  • Geometric signing and crossing controls for vehicles and pedestrians
  • Design guidance in developing station locations, pedestrian and vehicular access to the stations, and traffic controls including; traffic signals, signs, striping codes, and pavement markings on and adjacent to DART sites
