DeShazo, Tang & Associates, Inc. (DT&A) provided professional traffic and transportation engineering services to the client in relation to a master plan for the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) in Fort Worth, Texas. These services were intended to provide assistance to F&S Partners in ascertaining the transportation and parking needs of the campus. This campus lies within the Cultural District west of downtown Fort Worth. Camp Bowie Boulevard, Boland Street, West 7th Street and Montgomery Street, bound the campus and internal access provided by Clifton Street and Darcy Street.

Current parking supply exceeded the City of Fort Worth Zoning Requirements. However, planned new construction on the campus necessitated the planning for more parking facilities. DT&A conducted a parking analysis which consisted of the following items:

Inventory of the available parking supply

Determining the parking requirements

Observing the parking demand

Projecting the parking demand

DT&A also made recommendations regarding several other items. One of these was the construction of a main entry into the campus from Camp Bowie Boulevard pending the implementation of geometric improvements on Camp Bowie Boulevard, such as the addition of a left-turn bay and potential signalization. Traffic operational efficiency and effectiveness would be maintained by aligning the driveway with a street on the opposite side of Camp Bowie Boulevard – such as Will Rogers Road. The firm also recommended up to 600 additional parking spaces for the campus located in a centrally located parking structure or structures, designed to maintain existing vistas and greenspace as well as to optimize valuable land area and minimize walking distances.
